The spending limit is the amount approved by the merchant for usage-based charges. It determines the maximum order usage allowed within the selected plan.
In simple terms, the spending limit is the maximum amount that can be charged for monthly order usage over the plan's price.
Where to See Your Spending Limit
You approve your spending limit on Shopify’s approval screen when you subscribe to the Growth or Established plan. You can check and change it anytime from Shopify settings.

Spending Limit in Each Plan
- Free plan - No usage-based charges and no spending limit. You can use it for up to 250 orders.
- Starter plan - $15 a month for 500 orders. No usage-based charges and no spending limit.
- Growth plan - $49 a month for 1,000 orders. The usage-based charge is $10 per 100 orders. The spending limit covers usage charges after the plan’s limit is reached.
- Established plan - $199 a month for 4,000 orders. The usage-based charge is $10 per 100 orders. The spending limit covers usage charges after the plan’s limit is reached.

How Many Orders Does My Spending Limit Cover?
Max orders = Included orders + (Your spending limit ÷ $10) × 100
For example, Growth plan with a spending limit of $100 then total orders in plan will be:
1,000 + [ (100 ÷ 10) × 100 ] = 2,000 orders.
For example, Established plan with a spending limit of $500 then total orders in plan will be:
4,000 + [ (500 ÷ 10) × 100 ] = 9,000 orders.
Shopify does not allow charges above the spending limit you approved. To cover more orders, increase your spending limit.
How to Calculate Your Monthly Bill
This applies to the Growth and Established plans. Free and Starter plans have no usage-based charges.
Total monthly price = Plan price + (Additional orders ÷ 100) × Rate per 100 orders
Additional orders are the orders above your plan’s included orders.
Growth plan example: Your store gets 1,300 orders in a month.
- Additional orders: 1,300 − 1,000 = 300
- Usage-based charge: (300 ÷ 100) × $10 = $30
- Total monthly price: $49 + $30 = $79
Established plan example: Your store gets 5,000 orders in a month.
- Additional orders: 5,000 − 4,000 = 1,000
- Usage-based charge: (1,000 ÷ 100) × $10 = $100
- Total monthly price: $199 + $100 = $299
