If you are switching to Flits from another loyalty app, you can migrate your existing customer VIP tier assignments without losing history. This is done by importing a CSV file with your customer tier data directly into Flits using the Bulk adjust VIP tier feature.

This article walks you through how to prepare your data, upload it, and verify the migration.

Before you begin: Download the sample CSV template from the Bulk adjust VIP tier modal to ensure your file uses the correct format and headers.

If your file exceeds 1MB, split it into smaller files and upload separately, or contact support@getflits.com for assisted import.

Plan availability: The manual bulk tier adjustment is available on the Established plan and higher. If you do not see the Customer Adjust customers button, check your current billing plan.

1. Export your customer tier data from your existing app

From your current loyalty app, export a customer list that includes:

  • Customer Shopify ID (optional)
  • Customer email address
  • Current VIP tier name

Most loyalty apps have a built-in export option in their dashboard or analytics section. Refer to your existing app’s documentation for export steps.

2. Ensure your VIP tiers are configured in Flits

Before importing, your VIP tiers must already be set up in Flits. Tiers are not auto-created during import if a tier name in your CSV does not match an existing tier in Flits, that row will not be applied.

If tier rewards and redeemable benefits are configured before the import, migrated customers will automatically receive their VIP rewards once assigned to a tier.

3. Prepare the CSV in the Flits import format

Requirements

  • Required columns: customer_email / shopify_customer_id, tier_name
  • Tier names must exactly match the tier names configured in your Flits VIP setup
  • No additional columns are needed
  • Maximum file size: 1MB
  • If your CSV file exceeds 1MB, contact the Flits team at support@getflits.com for assisted import.

To see the exact format required, you can download a sample CSV directly from the Bulk adjust VIP tier modal in your Flits dashboard.

4. Set your program start date to preserve history

Flits sets the program start date as the first date of the current year or your Flits installation date — whichever is earlier. This determines how much historical activity is counted toward tier assignments.

Important: Do not run a global Recalculate immediately after import if your program start date does not yet cover enough historical activity. This may reassign customers to lower tiers based on incomplete data

5. Upload the CSV via Bulk adjust VIP tier

Step 1

Open the Bulk adjust VIP tier modal

Go to Flits Loyalty → Customers in your Shopify Admin, click the Adjust customers drop-down, then select Adjust VIP tier.

Step 2

Upload your CSV file

The Bulk adjust VIP tier modal will open. Click Add CSV file and upload your prepared file (maximum 1MB).

Step 3

Review the sample CSV and add a note

Optionally click Download sample CSV to verify your file format matches the required template.

Add a Note for internal team if needed. This note is visible only to you and your staff, not to customers. Maximum 150 characters.

Step 4

Import the CSV

Click Import CSV to begin the import.

Important: Importing VIP tiers does not create customers that don’t already exist in your store. It only places existing customers in tiers.

Customers will not be notified of tier changes during import.

After import, each updated customer will show the tier adjustment entry in the activity log. Tier member counts will update after the import is complete.

6. Verify migration

To verify the migration:

  • Go to Flits Loyalty → Customers and check that customers appear under the correct tiers.
  • Or go to VIP → Tier listing and check the member count per tier to confirm it matches your import data.

Important: Do not run a global Recalculate after import if your Loyalty and VIP program is already active. Recalculating will re-evaluate customers based on their current progress and program start date, which may override the manually assigned tiers from the import.

Things to keep in mind

  • Tier names in the CSV must exactly match tier names in your Flits VIP configuration.
  • The import will not create tiers that do not exist in Flits system.
  • CSV files larger than 1MB must be handled by the Flits team.
  • Customers are not notified of any tier changes during import.
  • Do not run a global Recalculate until your program start date covers sufficient historical activity.
  • The import only assigns tiers to existing customers, it does not create new customer accounts.
