Overview
The Variant Popup ensures customers select the correct product variant (size, color, material, etc.) before adding an item to their wishlist. This prevents inaccurate wishlisting, improves the shopping experience, and strengthens wishlist analytics by capturing variant-level preferences.
This article explains how the popup works, when to enable it, and how it benefits both customers and merchants.
1. Why the Variant Popup Matters
Without variant selection:
Customers may save the wrong variant by mistake
Wishlist analytics may misrepresent customer preferences
Merchants lose visibility into which sizes/colors drive demand
Customers may need to revisit product pages again later
With variant popup enabled:
Customers cannot wishlist an item without selecting a valid variant
You capture clean, actionable variant-level data
Add-to-cart conversions improve because wishlist → cart becomes consistent
Ideal for stores selling:
Clothing and apparel
Shoes
Cosmetics
Furniture with multiple configurations
Any multi-variant catalog
2. How to Enable the Variant Popup
Open Flits Wishlist
Go to Wishlist Settings → Variant Popup
Toggle Enable Variant Selector Popup → ON
Save your settings
Once enabled, the popup automatically appears whenever a customer attempts to save a product that has multiple variants.
3. How the Variant Popup Works
When a user clicks the wishlist button:
Popup opens showing:
Product image
Product title
Price
All variants (sizes, colors, styles)
Customer selects a variant
Clicks Add to Wishlist
Popup closes and UI updates to reflect saved status
If the customer cancels, nothing is saved.
4. What Customers See
The popup follows your theme’s design system and may include:
Variant dropdown or buttons
Swatches (if your theme uses swatch selectors)
Price updates based on variant selection
Confirmation state after saving
It adapts automatically to product options defined in Shopify.
5. Analytics Benefits for Merchants
Variant-level wishlisting allows you to:
Identify which sizes/colors are most wanted
Forecast inventory more accurately
Detect popular but sold-out variants
Optimize pricing and promotions
Improve merchandising decisions
For example:
If “Black — Size M” appears in hundreds of wishlists, this signals high demand even if current sales are low.
6. Troubleshooting Variant Popup Issues
If the popup does not appear:
Confirm Variant Selector Popup is enabled
Check that the product has 2+ variants
Ensure theme embed is active
Confirm no custom theme scripts block modal behavior
If the popup appears but does not save:
Check for third-party apps interfering with variant selectors
Re-save the variant options in Shopify Admin
Next Step
Now that variant selection is set up, configure wishlist visibility within customer accounts to complete the user journey.
