Introduction
Customers can use their earned reward points while placing an order, making their shopping experience more rewarding. Merchants can create multiple redeem rules to decide how customers can spend points as discounts, free products, free shipping, or more.
Purpose of Spending Points:
The spending points option allows customers to:
Utilise their earned credits.
Enjoy discounts, free products, or shipping benefits.
Showcase loyalty to your store.
As a merchant, you can set up rules that control how many points customers can redeem and what benefits they unlock.
Where Customers Redeem Points?
Customers can redeem points on an order through:
Cart Page - Available for all stores.
Checkout Page - Available only for Shopify Plus stores.
Redeem Rules Visibility
Customers can check their points balance and see available rewards from multiple locations in your store:
Customer Account Page - Customers log into their account to view total points and available rewards.
Reward Widget - A floating widget (if enabled) shows points balance and provides quick access to redeem options anywhere on the storefront.
Reward Page - A dedicated page in your store where customers can explore all redeemable rewards in detail.
Redeem Points Flow: Dropdown vs Popup
1. Existing Dropdown View
By default, customers see a dropdown on the Cart or Checkout page.
They can select how many points to spend based on your configured rules.
Once applied, the points will show up as a discount in the Order Summary at checkout.
2. New Popup View
When new rules are added in Admin > Ways to Redeem, activating any of them changes the redemption UI from a dropdown to a popup.
Customers will now see a Select Reward button.
Customer Flow
On the cart page, customers will see a “Select Reward” button with their points balance. Clicking this opens a rewards popup where all eligible rewards are listed, allowing customers to view, select, and apply rewards such as discounts, free products, or free shipping directly at checkout.
Important Notes:
Only stores with new “Ways to Redeem” rules saved will see the popup. Stores without new rules will continue using the dropdown.
Disabled rewards show up in grey until conditions are met.
To claim a Free Product, customers must add that product to the cart first. Discounts apply only if the relevant items are in the cart.
Customers must click Apply to confirm a reward - it will then appear in the order summary at checkout.
