If you have set an expiration date on earned points, you can automatically remind customers before their points expire encouraging them to redeem rather than lose their balance. This is done in two parts: setting the reminder thresholds, and activating the reminder emails.

Part 1: Set the Reminder Thresholds

  1. Go to Loyalty program → Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Points expiry notificationssection. Here you will see two thresholds:
    • Warning threshold - sends an early reminder a set number of days before points expire.
    • Last chance threshold - sends a final reminder closer to the expiry date.
  1. Click Edit next to either threshold.

  2. Enter the number of days before expiry you want the reminder sent, for example 2 days for the warning and 1 day for the last chance.
  3. Click Save.

Note: This setting only controls the timing of the reminder and the points-expiry event sent to integrations. To customize the actual email content, or to turn the emails on, you will do that in Notifications (Part 2 below).

Part 2: Activate and Customize the Reminder Emails

  1. Go to Notifications → Real time notifications.
  2. Click the Points expirytab. You will see three separate notifications:
    • Points expiry warning - the early reminder, which matches your Warning threshold above.
    • Points expiry last chance - the final reminder, which matches your Last chance threshold above.
  1. Click Edit on the notification you want to set up, for example Points expiry warning.
  2. Customize the Subject and Message. Use the available variables, such as ##customer_name##, ##points##, ##expiration_date##, and ##shop_name##, to personalize the email automatically for each customer.
  3. Use Send test mail or Preview to check how it will look.
  4. Click Turn on once you are happy with it, to activate the notification.

Repeat the same steps for Points expiry last chance. The editor works exactly the same way, so you will customize its subject and message and click Turn on to activate it as well.

How This Works Together

  • These reminders apply to any points with an expiry date, regardless of which earning rule the points came from.
  • The threshold (Part 1) decides when the reminder fires; the notification toggle (Part 2) decides whether an email actually goes out and what it says.
  • Both the warning and last-chance emails need to be turned on independently. Setting a threshold alone will not send an email until the corresponding notification is turned on.

Why This Matters for Your Store

Well-timed expiry reminders reduce lost points and give customers a nudge to come back and shop before their balance disappears turning an otherwise-forgotten reward into a fresh purchase. Consider pairing your last-chance reminder with a small campaign, for example a reminder that redeeming now equals an easy discount, to maximize redemption and repeat sales.
