Flits' standard earning rules cover the most common activities - orders, signups, social shares, and more. But your store may have its own unique actions worth rewarding: completing a quiz, visiting a specific page, joining a community, or any other engagement you define. Custom Actions let you create your own point-earning activity and set exactly how many points customers get for it.
Use Custom Actions when you want to reward a business-specific behavior that is not covered by Flits' standard earning rules.
1. How to Create a Custom Action Earning Rule
- Go to Loyalty program > Ways to earn > Custom actions.
- Click Add custom action.
- Give the action a clear, descriptive name so you and your team can identify it later, for example Completed style quiz.
- Set the points value customers will receive for completing the action.
- Add an internal Comment describing what triggers this action and how it is tracked.
- Set the rule’s Status to Active.
- Click Save from the save bar.
- Trigger the custom action from your store or integration whenever the defined activity happens, using the identifier associated with this rule.
2. Customer Experience
Once the action is configured and triggered, customers earn points automatically when they complete the defined activity.
- The action can be tied to any engagement you define, such as a quiz completion, page visit, or community signup.
- The points value is fully configurable for each Custom Action.
- You can pause the action at any time by setting its status to Inactive without deleting the configuration.
3. Frequently Asked Questions
How is a Custom Action different from the standard earning rules?
Standard earning rules cover fixed, predefined activities such as orders, signups, and social actions. Custom Actions let you define your own activity name and reward value for anything not covered by the standard rules.
Can I create more than one Custom Action?
Yes. You can create as many custom actions as you need, each with its own name, points value, and status.
Can Custom Actions be combined with Shopify Flow?
Custom Actions and Shopify Flow serve related but separate purposes. Check with your account setup to confirm which trigger mechanism fits your specific workflow.
Can I disable a Custom Action without deleting it?
Yes. Set its status to Inactive to pause point awards without losing your configuration.
Will customers be notified when they earn points from a Custom Action?
Yes. If mail notifications are enabled for the rule, customers will be notified the same way as for other earning rules.
4. Best Practices & Tips
- Use clear, specific names for each Custom Action so your team can easily audit what is triggering point awards.
- Keep point values proportional to the effort or value of the action, consistent with your other earning rules.
- Periodically review active Custom Actions to ensure they still reflect activities you want to reward.
