Not every product in your store should count toward your loyalty program — think of clearance items, gift cards, third-party products, or anything with thin margins. The Exclude Products setting lets you mark specific products as ineligible for loyalty, so they are left out of both earning and redemption without affecting the rest of your catalog.
Use exclusions to keep loyalty rewards focused on the products that make the most sense for your margins and program structure.
1. How to Exclude a Product
- Go to Loyalty program > Settings > Exclude products.
- Use Search to find a product by name, or click Browse to open the product picker.
- Select one or more products you want to exclude.
- Click Save.
To bring a product back into the loyalty program, remove it from the excluded list and save it again. It will resume earning points on new orders immediately.
2. What Excluding a Product Affects
Once a product is excluded, it is treated as loyalty-ineligible everywhere in Flits:
- Earning — orders containing an excluded product will not earn points on that product’s amount. If the cart also has non-excluded products, only the eligible portion of the order earns points.
- Points on Product/Cart pages — the potential points widget will not display earnable points for an excluded product.
- Free Product redemption rule — an excluded product cannot be effectively offered as a Free Product reward. If a rule points to a product that later gets excluded, the rule will show a warning so you can update it.
- VIP tier Free Product perks — the same exclusion applies to VIP program Free Product perks, so an excluded product is not a valid reward option for tier perks either.
3. Frequently Asked Questions
If I exclude a product that is already selected as a Free Product reward, what happens to that rule?
The rule will flag a warning so you know the reward can no longer be redeemed as configured. We recommend updating the rule to a different product.
Does excluding a product affect orders that were already placed?
No. Exclusion only applies going forward. Points already earned or rewards already issued are not retroactively changed.
Can I exclude a product from earning but still allow it in the Free Product rewards?
No. Exclusion applies uniformly to both earning and redemption for that product. If you only want to adjust earning behavior for a specific product, use a Points on specific product earning rule instead.
Does exclusion apply to all variants of a product?
Yes. Excluding a product excludes all of its variants.
Can I exclude a large number of products at once?
Yes. The product picker supports selecting multiple products in one go, including via search.
4. Best Practices & Tips
- Use exclusions for low-margin items, gift cards, or third-party products where issuing loyalty points does not make business sense.
- Review your Free Product and VIP perk rules after adding new exclusions to make sure none of them point at a now-excluded product.
- Revisit your excluded product list periodically — pricing and catalog changes may mean a product no longer needs to stay excluded.
